Privacy Policy
Effective September 30, 2026. Draft for the pilot; subject to review by counsel.
1. What we collect
- Account information: name, email, password (stored only as a hash), jurisdiction, interests, and anything you add to your profile.
- Submissions: complaints, responses, exhibits, volunteer applications, donation pledges, contact messages, and newsletter sign-ups.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, in server logs retained for a limited period for security and operations. Vitreo does not use third-party advertising trackers.
- Audit records: who filed, reviewed, or changed what on the docket, and when, including the IP address at the time of the action.
2. What becomes public
Published complaints, responses, supplements, and exhibits are public and permanent, including the respondent's name and professional details and the content of exhibits. The complainant's name is shown on the docket as the filing party. Your email address, password, IP address, and account profile are never published. Draft complaints are visible only to you and to editors. Advisory assessments are visible to you and editors, not to the public.
3. How we use information
To operate the Site and docket; to verify respondents; to review complaints under the publication gate; to respond to your messages; to send updates you have opted into; to detect abuse; and to comply with law. Vitreo does not sell personal information.
4. Sharing
We share information with service providers that host the Site and deliver email, under contracts limiting their use; with editors and vetted volunteers who review submissions; and when required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person. If Vitreo accepts payments, the payment processor receives the information needed to process the transaction and is governed by its own policy.
5. Retention
Docket content is retained permanently as part of the public record, subject to the sealing and redaction procedures in the complaint content policy. Draft complaints you delete are removed. Account information is retained while your account is open and for a reasonable period afterward. Server logs are retained for no more than 90 days unless needed for a security investigation.
6. Your choices
You can update your profile and unsubscribe from updates from your account page. You may ask us to close your account by contacting us; filed docket content remains on the record. Residents of jurisdictions with data-protection rights (for example, the EU, UK, or U.S. states with privacy statutes) may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about them, subject to the public-record exceptions described above.
7. Security
Passwords are hashed; connections are encrypted; exhibits are stored with integrity checksums; and access to non-public data is limited to authorized editors. No system is perfectly secure, and you should use a unique password.
8. Children
The Site is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Complaints must not identify minors except as permitted by the complaint content policy.
9. Changes and contact
We will post changes to this policy here. Questions: contact Vitreo.
